"The Trial of the Spirit" follows the darkest stages of Jesus’ path toward the Crucifixion. Brooding atmospheres and hypnotic rhythms evoke forty days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness, where he rejects the promises of appetite, spectacle, and worldly power.
The mix then enters Gethsemane, where anguish gives way to obedience, before moving through Judas’ betrayal, the disciples' abandonment, interrogation by the religious authorities, and judgment before Pontius Pilate. Increasingly severe textures reflect public rejection, scourging, and the ascent to Golgotha.
The final movement centers on the Crucifixion and Jesus’ cry of apparent abandonment, drawn from Psalm 22. Rather than treating suffering as defeat, the mix presents it as the extreme trial through which fidelity, sacrifice, and redemptive purpose are revealed.
