Music Production
Sebastian Essene is a Nottingham-based music producer working across ambient music, experimental electronics, sound collage, field recording, and restrained rhythmic forms. His releases are frequently organised around specific esoteric texts, ritual systems, historical events, and occult ideas, which provide both the conceptual structure and the source material for individual compositions.
Rather than using spirituality as a general atmosphere, Sebastian examines particular subjects through sound: initiation, magical practice, secret societies, ceremonial ritual, altered states, religious symbolism, and the relationship between power and hidden knowledge. Spoken-word recordings, archival material, processed voices, drones, synthesis, repetition, and contrasting layers of texture are used to translate these subjects into musical form.
His work combines research-led composition with an experimental approach to arrangement, creating albums that function not only as collections of tracks but as connected narratives, symbolic cycles, and sonic interpretations of esoteric material.
DJ Sets
Sebastian’s DJ sets move between ambient electronics, experimental sound design, field recordings, modular synthesis, drone, spoken-word material, and slower or deeper club-oriented forms. Rather than following a single genre, each set is constructed through changes in density, rhythm, tone, and spatial depth.
He approaches DJing as a form of live arrangement. Tracks, textures, voices, and environmental recordings are selected according to their relationship to one another, allowing the set to develop gradually from sparse and suspended passages into heavier, more rhythmic, or psychologically intense sections. Transitions are used to preserve continuity while altering the emotional direction of the room.
Whether performed in a focused listening environment or a more physical setting, the aim is to create a coherent progression rather than a sequence of disconnected selections: a temporary sound space shaped through tension, repetition, silence, memory, and shared attention.
Beyond the Music
Sebastian has a long-standing interest in psychology, comparative religion, esotericism, and the symbolic life of the human person. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Counselling, diplomas in Pastoral and Clinical Counselling, Logotherapy and Existential Analysis, and Coaching and Mentoring, as well as a additional qualifications in law. He is currently undertaking a master’s degree in Interreligious Dialogue: Science, Philosophy and Theology of Religions.
Sebastian enjoys reading, films, long walks, coffee, and quiet time away from noise. He is drawn to work that combines seriousness with simplicity and values ordinary human presence as much as symbolic or spiritual depth.
