From the recording Crowley's Veil: Shadows of the Magus
“Voices from the Abbey of Thelema” returns to the community established by Aleister Crowley and Leah Hirsig in Cefalù in 1920. Repeated voices and ritual textures evoke its residents practising yoga, ceremonial magic, solar adorations, and the discipline of discovering True Will. The track also reflects the Abbey’s contradictions: spiritual experiment, domestic community, personal conflict, scandal, and Crowley’s authority over those who joined him. Rather than summoning ancient spirits, its “voices” are the traces of people who attempted to turn Thelema from occult teaching into a complete way of life.
